Holy Stone HS200D FPV RC Drone with 720P Camera 120°FOV Live Video WiFi Quadcopter for Beginners... | Buy on Amazon |
Harnessing an enhanced FPV mode and fortified WiFi signals, the Holy Stone HS200D emerges as a robust quadcopter drone. Boasting substantial improvements in its build when compared to its predecessor, the HS200, this drone promises an effortless and enjoyable flying experience. The crucial question lingers: Does it justify the investment, or should you consider alternative options? Join me as we delve into the specifics to ascertain whether the Holy Stone HS200D is a worthwhile expenditure of your hard-earned money.
First and foremost, the Holy Stone HS200D is very cheap at under $80 and includes abundant features that will encourage you to fly every time it is fully-charged and ready to go. Also, Holy Stone addressed all the issues from the older HS200 such as stiff controls and weak signals and improved upon those which only cost slightly higher. The HS200D definitely has a lot of great value that makes every penny worth it. While it may not sport at least 1080p resolutions, its aerial shots are still great, especially if you know how to do flight photography. It even comes with a headless mode for beginners or if you just want to feel the thrill of flying a drone. The HS200D performs multiple 3D flips, includes three speed modes and a very stable 6-axis gyro system. All that in a drone under $100, making this a great low-price high-value drone.
I do think that the HS200D looks very sporty, hence why you can use it for racing circuits and drone stunts. You may choose between two colors: black or white. Aside from the colors, the overall design of the drone is made to be very aerodynamic, full of smooth curves and soft edges. The non-edgy design is more than just making the drone look lustrous; it’s to negate the air drag and bring it to high-speed potential, resulting in an exceptional performance when racing or testing out its top speed limit.
Underneath the drone is legs that are padded for smooth landings no matter the terrain. Not only does it make landing safe, but it also makes the camera far from the ground, giving it maximum protection against breakage from crashing.
You can also equip the HS200D with propeller guards for maximum protection if you are very cautious about your drone’s well-being.
The drone also comes with LED lights on, so if you plan on doing night flights, this is definitely a handy aircraft to have. They’re well-lit and distinguishable enough even if the drone is far from your line of sight.
There isn’t anything too spectacular with the Holy Stone HS200D. In fact, you might say that the experience may be too short because of its 10-minute battery life.
But, look at the bright side: not a lot of drones can last more than 9 minutes if it costs less than $100, but with the HS200D, there is more than just its short battery life. If you compare its features versus other competing brands within the same price range, this drone is by far superior.
However, I did wish that the Holy Stone UAV would include spare batteries but hey, you can always buy a separate one yourself.
As said earlier, it may not have the best HD resolutions, but the 2MP 720p camera can do wonders, especially if you are still quite new to mid-air photography. The best part here isn’t mainly on the camera itself but on the 6-axis gimbal. I could argue that HS200D’s stabilization is very sturdy compared to DJI itself.
Alongside the gimbal, the much-improved WiFi signal makes it a miracle to make use of the drone’s camera even from far away. That means you can still be able to see a very clear vision of what your drone is facing from a distance.
It’s a great beginner-level camera drone before you up the ante with DJI or PowerVision.
Let me be perfectly clear here: controlling the drone is highly responsive. But, the controller itself can be a hit or miss. While the drone does commit its actions within just a few milliseconds, there is something quite confusing with the controls itself: that includes using its controller, its app or VR.
However, for an entry-level drone, this is not bad at all. It’s just that anyone with a long experience on drones will spot the difference between this and a more high-end drone.
You can navigate the drone at 3 different speeds. Thanks to this, the drone will provide a smooth learning curve. And if you are having a hard time controlling the drone using the camera, you can always go with the convenient headless mode so you can enjoy the flying without much of the learning. In many ways, the HS200D flies more superior to the HS200: better speeds, better maneuvering, and better aerobatics. The only thing that lacks here just like its predecessor is the inclusion of a GPS tracker.
Overall, the Holy Stone HS200D is a bargain deal that includes all the features you need to get you started flying quickly. It may not hold much like its more expensive competitors but if you need the right budget drone for photography, let this be at the top of your list.
Yes. The HS200D has more simplified controls and a more responsive sensor.
It's cheap. It is considered one of the best budget-friendly drones that include various features.
If you are already okay with 2MP 720p, then this is a good choice.
Not really. Even without the skills, you'll still be able to learn photography throughout the flight session.
Yes, pretty much. Especially if you find DJI to be too expensive.
