Just because it’s DJI doesn’t mean it’s automatically expensive. In fact, the DJI Mavic Mini is one their cheapest products. However, that does not mean the specs are cheap too. This little baby carries around a 12MP camera, meaning every capture is picture perfect. Its video is pretty good too thanks to its 2.7K resolution at 30 fps. It is a much lighter version than the more well-known Mavic Pro 2. It does not include an intense zoom feature but this makes up more than just the price. If you prefer to go for an entry-level camera drone, the DJI Mavic Mini suits you.

The DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 is not for the faint of heart. If you are a master of the drone and a serious photographer, then this should be on par with your standards. It sports a classic drone design with a classy camera. It uses a powerful 20MP camera with zoom for those extra cinematic shots and it can record up to 4K at 60 fps. Of course, with those features, expect it to be expensive. It was also believed that the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 was supposed to have a halt in the production but DJI thought it would be wise to still continue this large drone. It is not foldable, so make sure you have enough space in the car trunk for this.

The Ryze Tello is a mini drone with a decent camera. This is also considered a good entry-level drone if you want something much cheaper than the DJI Mavic Mini. The best part about the Ryze Tello is that everything is basic, making it approachable for inexperienced drone users. It is also a great opportunity for you to learn coding with this gadget. The Ryze Tello is mainly for indoor use since it cannot go further than 100m and the 720p camera is in a fixed position; no tilting. However, this is a great opportunity to start practicing how do drone photography.

Best Selfie Camera Drone: Skydio 2

No products found.

If you prefer a more advanced drone that works by itself (most of the time), the Skydio 2 is the best example. It has a tracking technology in which the drone is able to follow you wherever you go. While there is no controller included, the mobile app is a reliable tool, letting you take those amazing aerial shots wherever you may be. The 8MP camera can capture 4K 60 fps videos and has multiple angles and shooting modes. It is the best buddy for your social media profile. However, I still highly recommend buying a controller since you get to have more control over its shots.

What Would I Buy?

In the end, the DJI Mavic Pro 2 Zoom is truly the best camera drone in the market. Sure, it may be a few years old but it still can’t be beat with its abundant features and crisp shots that will make any pro photographer impressed. But if you want a cheaper way to enjoy the beauty of DJI, consider buying the DJI Mavic Mini. And if you like a drone with a more professional camera design, it is the DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 that you should take into consideration. Not looking to take the serious route in drone photography and just looking for something casual? Then, the Ryze Tello is your best choice. And if you like some very good selfies in an aerial point of view, the Skydio 2 is the most obvious option.

Buying Guide

Camera Quality

The main highlight of the DJI Mavic Pro is its folding capabilities. ThDepending on how meticulous you are when it comes to the drone camera, most drones can capture videos and pictures at 720p while some go as far as 4K at 60 fps. Of course, DJI offers the most robust options when it comes to camera quality in a drone, but there are some competing drones out there such as the Powervision and Skydio that have what it takes to one-up over DJI when it comes to high-quality photography.

Multiple Angles

If you are going to take drone photography seriously, then you should consider whether or not the drone can capture at different angles. Of course, the more angular allotment, the better. But sometimes it is okay if the camera is at a fixed position - only if you are just a casual that wants a decent drone camera.

Price

Simply enough, the better the camera, the higher the price. Usually, drones with high-quality cameras are large and are not foldable while those that are foldable commonly only has at least a 2MP camera with 720p video capture. Some are exceptions like the Mavic Pro 2 as it is foldable and has a high-quality camera.

Lenses

Camera-focused drone brands like Powervision and DJI offer multiple lens options for you to choose from. These are optional unless you want to take drone photography seriously.
