Best Stunt Drone

After dedicating hours to researching 40 different drones, my top recommendation for the best stunt drone is the DJI Mavic Air. Its long battery life, lightweight design, and impressive aerobatic capabilities set it apart. Dive into the details about this drone and explore the rest of the top 5 below.

The Best Drones for Stunts:

Best Stunt Drone: DJI Mavic Air

The DJI Mavic Air has a good reputation of not just only looking good but perform the best as well. It is also one of the best-selling drones from the brand because of its reasonable price for its sentimental value. It is like the baby brother of the DJI Mavic Pro 2 - it carries around more than 21 minutes of battery life, a high-quality 1080p to 4K HD camera, all under a foldable lightweight feature. Of course, it goes without saying that the Mavic Air’s aerobatics are as good as what the praises say in the drone forums. The DJI Mavic Air truly is one of the best stunt drones in the market.

If you find the DJI Mavic Air too expensive, there is always the best alternative to that: the Yuneec Mantis Q. Yuneec has made really creative drones in the past but the Mantis Q makes the best example of superior design for a stunt drone under a good price. Much like the Mavic Air, the Yuneec Mantis Q can be also foldable and can last up to more than 21 minutes plus with extra batteries included. This is one of the brand’s very first creations so don’t be surprised if the camera isn’t all that amazing. But, for a first model in a lineup of new Yuneec Mantis drones, the Q version is very good when it comes to aerobatics.

Best 4K Stunt Drone: Yuneec Mantis H

The Yuneec Mantis H is the direct successor of the Mantis Q model. Now with a much-improved 4K HD camera and longer battery life, the Mantis H bids as the direct competitor to the DJI Mavic Air. It includes brushless motors and lightweight design, resulting in a very agile build that is best when performing stunts in the air. It can also last up to more than 25 minutes with its better battery life plus spare batteries. The Mantis H is currently Yuneec’s best-selling drone that many users say is actually much better than any DJI drone. Keep in mind that this is also slightly cheaper than the Mavic Air.

Best Stunt Drone for Kids: Eachine E019

The Eachine E019 is not only the cheapest of the bunch, but it is also a toy drone best to play with kids. The included action figure obviously targets a younger audience but the main gist in the E019 is the simple controller that feels more like a console controller like the Xbox One or PlayStation Dualshock. This drone really treats itself as a casual type of drone; you could even consider the E019 as a novelty drone too. It may not travel very far nor does it have an extended battery life but it sure makes a great toy for the young drone enthusiasts.

Best Premium Stunt Drone: DJI Mavic Air 2

Were it not for its expensive selling price, I could have put the DJI Mavic Air 2 on the number one spot. But nevertheless, this is a very solid pick if you want a stylish stunt drone. The Mavic Air 2 is a high-end drone filled with complex controls that can do crazy aerobatics that you never thought were possible. It also makes a great competitive drone too if you ever wanted to get into the high-quality drone flying category.

Conclusion (Why I Would Buy It)

The drones mentioned above are truly the best stunt drones I have found but if you want my personal pick, I would definitely go for the DJI Mavic Air. Sure, it may be an older model in the DJI lineup but it still does better stunts and has a lighter weight compared to the latest DJI drones. But if you want the best cheaper alternative, you either go for the Yuneec Mantis Q or the Yuneec Mantis G. And if you are a kid (or a kid at heart) or if you want to try out a drone without prior experience, the Eachine E019 is an inexpensive choice and a good entry point into the world of drone piloting. Lastly, if you want a competitive drone that does more than just performing stunts, the DJI Mavic Air 2 makes a perfect option for you.

Drone Buying Guide

Weight

If you are going to look for a drone that is capable of doing crazy stunts, then you better make sure you are buying a lightweight drone. The most ideal weight you should look for is around 80 to 180g since it can fly off to speeds of up to 105mph, which also makes it good for racing. However, keep in mind that lightweight drones are also more easily prone to breakage if it ever falls hard.

Camera Quality Wouldn’t Matter

If you are reading this article in order to buy the best drone that can do all sorts of aerobatics, then you came to the right place. Otherwise, it is better if you just look at drones that specialize in really good cameras. People buy stunt drones for the sake of impressing other people as if you’re flying a kite. Whether it’s 4K, 720p or none at all, cameras don’t matter as long as it can perform stunts.

Brushless Motors

Another vital part of looking for the best stunt drone is the motors. Make sure they’re brushless because these drones are always lightweight and travel the farthest, and are quieter.

Distance

The minimum distance you can allow yourself to do stunts is at least 100m. You want other people to see your drone stunts; not let them see the world from a drone’s point of view.

How much are stunt drones?

Stunt drone prices depend on what type of drone you are buying. Drones without cameras are always significantly cheaper (as low as $30) especially if they are purposefully used as toys rather than a luxury. However, some stunt drones do cost as much as $1000 like the Skydio 2.

Are stunt drones safe for kids?

This also depends on what drone you are buying. Obviously, the likes of the DJI Mavic series caters to adults more. Although, the likes of Eachine E019 is more on stunt fun packed in a smaller size, which makes it good and safe to play for kids.

Is the stunt drone good for a beginner?

Yes, the stunt drone makes a good entry-level beginner drones, especially if you are not planning to take aerial photoshoots but rather just have some hovering fun. Stunt drones are also one of the cheapest types of drones in the market since a lot of them are more about aerobatics without any camera included.

Is it hard to use a stunt drone?

Stunt drones are one of the simplest types of drones in the market since they are always ready to use straight out of the box. If you want a more complex approach when it comes to drones, consider looking at FPV drones.
