Holy Stone F181G Drone Review

For those seeking a budget-friendly racing UAV without sacrificing performance, I wholeheartedly endorse the Holy Stone F181G drone. With its 5.8GHz frequency, lightweight design, and optimized HD camera, this fast drone stands out as a compelling choice for enthusiasts looking for both affordability and capability in a racing drone. Join me as we delve into the details to unveil more about its features and capabilities.

Why You Should Buy

The Holy Stone F181G is easily one of the most affordable racing drones available today. Sure, you may say there are plenty more that is better out there, but if you happen to be new to the racing scene and you need one that is competitive enough to tailgate with the big boys yet easily controllable for a newbie, then this is what you should get.

Plus, it has a strong frequency too, meaning you will never have to worry about signals and control responsiveness even if the drone is a squint away from your line of sight. It can achieve high-powered performance even without the need to manually configure its settings. And with controls this simple, you can be eligible for drone racing competitions in no time. Just mind the battery life though since it doesn’t last that long.

Design

The outer layer of the Holy Stone F181G is made of ABS plastic - a thick polymer material that is tough even when the drone crashes or bumps hard on a surface. This is also one of the main reasons why it is so welcoming for beginners; because no matter how many times you crash it, it never gets cracked.

Supporting the ABS plastic coating is shock pads - which are very crucial in order for a longer service life for the drone. It even includes protective propeller guards if you need to be more cautious with the drone - accessories that are vital for beginners especially when it is their first time flying the device.

For night flights, the F181G also utilizes two LED lights: a blue light for the front and a red light for the back. It lights up enough for you to distinguish which way it is headed even if you are looking at it from your line of sight.

Underneath the drone is landing pads; which are wide enough to provide distance for the camera. Its hull does not only look good but it really is tough too. It is definitely one of Holy Stone’s best-looking drones yet.

Battery

As said earlier, the drone only lasts up to 10 minutes - which is certainly not bad for a drone that only costs less than $100. That said, it was even improved too. Before, in the earlier version - the F181G Chaser - it only lasted up to 8 minutes and with weak reception. This time around, the F181G drone’s battery life increased and its battery health improved - allowing for a longer flight time. An easy way to extend your time in their air is by buying more and better Holy Stone drone batteries.

Camera

Honestly, this drone is not bad at all when it comes to camera quality. It’s no DJI or PowerVision, but the 2MP 720P resolutions are so clear, you’d forget you would even need a 1080p camera. Besides racing, the F181G is great for photography too, especially if you are planning to get a cheap one first before moving on to greater 4K camera drones.

Controls

The F181G comes with a controller for your smartphone. I have to tell you, this controller is remarkable. Not only did Holy Stone simplify the layout by removing excess buttons, but it is highly responsive too - which is also thanks to the 5.8GHz frequency. Even without deep tutorials, a newbie can fly this drone in just a few minutes without any problems.

Flight Performance

The F181G is a lean mean fighting machine that even Maverick from Top Gun would even want to test out. This drone is fast, agile and could be used for some stunts. Drone experts recommend this drone for starting your journey into the world of drone racing. Not just because it is so easy to maneuver, but it can teach you the basics of handling, throttling, and accelerating at the right times on a track.

This also makes a great starting point if you want to get invested in dedicated FPV drones without ever consulting a headless mode. While this drone may be simple to use, it can be a formidable device too for intermediate and veteran flyers. It is not just beautiful, it is extremely fast too.

Conclusion

Personally, I find the F181G very cheap, especially for a drone racer. Rarely do you find a racing drone that costs less than $100 and get away with abundant features. Honestly, this drone is generous when it comes to content for both beginners and experts alike. If you need a UAV with a price that is just right but heavy on the features that will keep you invested for hours, the Holy Stone F181G Drone is the perfect one for you.
